>> ABOUT
Our most recent Ofsted rated our Early Year provision as Outstanding in September 2019.
Our Early Years unit at Kingfisher Primary School consists of a Nursery Class and a Reception Class. We have an open plan classroom and shared outdoor learning environment. The Nursery classroom is both warm and welcoming, enabling the children to settle quickly.
All teaching in the Early Years is tailored to each childâs individual needs with progress tracked closely. Childrenâs interests initiate planned activities in order to expand childrenâs understanding and love of learning.
Our vision is to support our children to become lifelong learners and as such we enable our children to be lifelong learners through teaching the schoolsâ values; to persevere, be resilient, be responsible, be respectful, be independent and build successful relationships.
If you would like a tour of our wonderful facilities please call the school office to book an appointment.
âChildren are engaged and quickly become confident and independent.â

Phonics
Our Phonics scheme at Kingfisher is Read write Inc. Read Write Inc is an interactive phonics programme that aims to get children reading and writing fast. It is designed for children aged 4 â 7 but can also be used with 8 â 9 year olds to help them catch up.
The programme is rooted in synthetic phonics. Teaching synthetic phonics, in a systematic way, aims to drive up standards in reading and writing. Comprehension skills develop as the children move from learning to read, to reading to understand. The programme builds confidence in grammar, punctuation and spelling ensuring every child becomes a successful reader.
Outdoor Learning
At Kingfisher, we maximize our amazing outdoor space by providing high quality learning areas for the children including an outdoor construction area, mud kitchen, water zone and performance area. We encourage the children to explore their learning outdoors in all weathers.
We are also incredibly lucky to have our own forest area on site and we use this area on a weekly basis to encourage forestry skills. âThe early years provides a stimulating environment.â

Special Events
Each term we hold a special event for the children to celebrate their learning. We also invite parents and carers in to spend time with their child, completing activities and sharing their Learning Journeys. Events that we have held include Teddy Bears Picnic, Pumpkin Carve, Polar Express Day and Chinese New Year.
âBehaviour is very well managed; routines and a calm atmosphere are quickly established.â

Trips and Visits
Our Early Years curriculum aims to broaden childrenâs horizons by increasing their knowledge of the world around them. We therefore plan termly trips and visits in order for the children to experience things first hand.
Healthy Choices
At Kingfisher we understand the importance of supporting our young children to make healthy choices. Our snack bar is fully stocked with healthy options as well as daily activities to support physical development.
âTeachers pay very close attention to childrenâs different needs and stages of development.â

Parent Support
We actively encourage parents and carers to support their children with their learning. We document childrenâs progress in âLearning Journeysâ and encourage parents and carers to regularly look at these special books as well as informing us of learning that has taken place outside of the school environment. We pride ourselves on having great communication with parents and carers to regularly update them on how their child is progressing. We also hold termly events to invite parents in to the learning zone.
