We are absolutely thrilled and bursting with pride to announce that Kingfisher Primary School has been crowned the National Champions of the 2025 ‘Grow Your Own Potatoes’ (GYOP) Competition!
Our dedicated Kingfisher Gardeners dug up a massive win by achieving the heaviest confirmed national weight in the competition. All grown from just three seed potatoes supplied in a GYOP kit, our green-fingered pupils harvested an astonishing 5000g of the Casablanca variety!
This incredible achievement is a testament to the hard work, care, and enthusiasm shown by everyone involved. The children were very proud of their success, which is all thanks to the dedication of one of our popular after-school clubs and the fantastic growing conditions provided by our newly refurbished allotment. Not only have they learned valuable lessons about where our food comes from, but they’ve also proven that Kingfisher Primary has the best growers in the whole country!
